We will see the start of internet development in Malaysia where the start of an Internet network that has a huge impact on the IT industry in Malaysia. There are many parties who have achieved the development of internet networks in Malaysia. In Malaysia, Internet facilities are indispensable in this era where associated with technology and the Internet can help develop national development, coupling and individuals.
Chronology of Internet development in Malaysia.
1983
Dr Mohamed Awang-Lah
-Netizen Malaysia's first Malaysia Dr Mohamed Awang-Lah (one of the Board members (OUM).
- He started the idea of connecting Malaysia with the world through the Internet at Universiti Malaysia laboratory.
- He has also made the same internet connection at the end of 1984 when he was stationed at MIMOS (Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic System).
- The establishment of MIMOS by the Government has provided opportunities for IT-literate Malaysians to produce better internet connections.
1989
- The Malaysian Computer Network (Rangkom) with international connection facilities was established
by Dr Mohamed Awang - Lah.
- Universities - local universities have been selected to become the earliest ring users.
- The initial focus of Rangkom's use is on mail and eletronic forums, although it has communication capabilities and resource sharing.
- The Rangkom Project not only provides experience in terms of technology development, but it also reveals some weaknesses, shortcomings as well as the potential use of communication network technology and management issues related to it.
1991
- JOINT ADVANCED INTEGRATED NETWORKING (JARING) PROGRAM has been formulated and launched.
- The program aims to develop an integrated and comprehensive communication network.
- All activities and experience of the Rangkom Project have been applied to the JARING project.
- MIMOS operates the JARING network project as a development project in the 6th Malaysia Plan.
- Nets connected with many research and academic institutions, as well as government and private agencies in Malaysia, primarily to support education, research and commercial activities.
- JARING is also connected to international lnternet networks.
1992
- 64Kbps International Video Circuit line to the United States has been operating from 14 November 1992.
- This suwe line replaces the X lines.
- 25 Public and dial that are no longer effective in terms of cost after the increase in the number of users and the level of use of the net.
1994
- JARING capabilities are enhanced to 1.5 Mbps which are 24 times faster than 64kbps of this net capacity utilizing full optical replacement technology in accordance with the increase in the number of memberships.
- JARING membership is categorized into students, individuals and organizations.
- Individuals and students can only access the Internet via the dial line only, while the organization can access through the Dialing line or the Suwa Circuit.
- JARING membership throughout 1994 has increased to 1,693 individual members and 254 companies.
1995
- Nets enhanced the ability to accommodate the increased membership and use and reduce traffic congestion. The main spent is to strengthen the net spinal infrastructure through additional nodes, line between nodes, and increased the speed of multiple lines and the number of dial lines.
- Lines connecting nodes in Penang and Johor Bahru have increased its speed from 64kbps to 2 048Mbps.
- Over 1,000 online for dial-up users have been provided.
1996
- A total of 40 new nodes were installed in 1996 in addition to 21 nodes in the previous year.
- JARING has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Asia Internet Holding (AIH) from Japan to enhance Internet services for local and Asia Pacific consumers on 9 November 1996.
- Network named A-Bone JARE makes it easy for Internet users to contact the website in the Asian region.
- The relationship provides faster access and directly for users to Asian countries connected to A-Bone.
- The installation of the second connection to the international internet. The high-speed fixed connection at 2.048bps (E1) works with a 1.536Mbps (T1) connection previously.
- Throughout 1996, growth in net membership increased at 22% per month.
- Through the 9th Malaysia Plan, the Government has implemented a superstructure project of state information using nets as a spinal infrastructure.
- JARING has sealed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several JARING Access Service Provider (JASP) company on 1 August 1996.
- On November 1, 1996, Telekom Malaysia Berhad started the TMNet service, as Malaysia's second Internet service provider (ISP) after obtaining a license from the government.
1999
- In May 1999, JARING began to offer international roaming services covering over 150 countries.
- In June 1999, JARING forged with the 45Mbps international international installation which was the first line of its kind in the region (outside Japan).
- This line is installed taking on Asia's largest internet conference, Inet 1999.
- Number of JARING membership increases above 100,000 with the amount of consumers estimated to exceed 300,000 people.
2000
- Other companies that also provide ISP services in Malaysia are Maxis Communications Berhad, DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd and Time Dot.com Berhad.
After 2000, the development of Internet use throughout Malaysia was very rapidly. Malaysia progresses forward with a good relationship involving the use of the Internet and IT. Now, the use of the Internet as well as digital technology has become an important need as Malaysia has used an online system to do something like online business, learn online, buy items online and more. The impact of internet usage can help develop Malaysia from various angles as well as make Malaysia a developed and developing nation.
